The Magic of Crayons on Handmade in PA

Today my column called Creative Blast on Handmade in PA is about crayons.

It seems that the age-old tested resplendent crayon is slowly being shoved aside and replaced with the modern marker as the main tool used by children for drawing.
That’s a shame.  Markers definitely have their place as a tool for the artist, but crayons rule when it comes to art education. Read the whole article

Home is Where the Art Is

I'm enjoying writing a column for Handmade in PA. My column is called Creative Blast! and today's topic was Home is Where the Art Is:

Here's the beginning of the article:
Nurturing creativity is an ongoing process and starts when the kids are little. A friend once said that there is nothing better for the planet than people getting together and being creative. She is so right!
Homes are designed with home offices, in law suites, laundry rooms, entertainment centers, nanny quarters etc……Until a Creativity Center is automatically added to that why not just take that formal dining room or extra bedroom and turn it into a Creativity Room? Read the whole article

Slither

A few months ago I met my power animal via a drumming circle,
and it is a snake.
The prompt for the current
"What If" creative challenge on Handmade in PA
is "slither"

A woman with a snake around her neck
was cut into a circle and glued onto a poker chip.
Tiny star stickers were added around the edges.
A coat of modge podge was applied as a sealant.
A magnet was glued on the back and now she's on the refrigerator.....
Ta Da!

One of my favorite blogs is Handmade in PA. which seeks to be the premiere site for bringing Pennsylvania artisans & shoppers together. The blog features interviews, hosts giveaways, publishes tutorials, and offers business & shopping advice – all in the name of supporting the handmade movement in Pennsylvania.

I'm excited about becoming a regular columnist for Handmade in PA, starting June 28th with a tutorial on making upcycled gift bags! The name of my column will be Creative Blast and will be published every other Monday.
