My son plays the piano, harmonica, saxaphone, and a little guitar, sings and goes to the School of Rock. One of the kids who goes there, and who works there too had the brilliant idea to have a School of Rock Prom..........Everyone wanted to get dressed up and have a good time. My son wanted to wear a zoot suit at first. I'm reluctant to spend money on any kind of suit for him these days. He's 14 and already taller than me and will probably grow a foot this summer.So we hit a thrift shop and found a three piece pin striped suit with a vest, a beautiful white shirt with patterned collar and cuffs, plus a fabulous pair of regular pants, all for $18.00. This was so easy, and such a far cry from my daughter's senior prom dress saga.
This time I was on the decorating committee and got to make some big wild mobiles using old record jackets cut into big stars, sheet music, 45's CD's and some of those metallic spiral things that they sell at the dollar store to keep birds away. That was alot of fun!
My daughter made a beautiful roses bouquet, and rose corsage for the Rock Prom couple.......
We went to pick up his beautiful bass playing date, who lived way out in the country. We got lost on the way to the Rock Prom and wound up in another state. What should have been a twenty minute ride took an hour and twenty minutes! Fortunately, everyone was in good spirits and we had lots of laughs along the way.
My son wound up being crowned the School of Rock Prom King for being the classiest guy there. He picked his classy Queen out of four finalists............It was a wonderful evening, a fantastic collaboration of parents, staff and kids.

School of Rock, really? What number of enrollment do they have there? Very neat, don't you love when you find just the thing for next to nothing? It's nice that this prom was an easy one for you. Wow, that first photo of your son shows the resemblance to you in your blog photo. Good for him getting to be the Prom King, he looks positively dashing in the photos.
By the way, you asked the size of my zentangles. Most are between 5 and 8 inches tall. I have one that is taller than 10 inches. My son wants me to do a really large one. I think that would be good too but time consuming and now I am trying to finish some paintings. Actually just took a break to take daughter to volleyball practice and am going right back upstairs to painting. Later....

What a successful night...memories he'll treasure for the rest of his life....seems like a wonderful young man...good job, mom!
